The research center is one of the key departments of the company. The center takes the responsibility for research and development of new technique and new product, external academic exchanges and technological cooperation and early-stage evaluation of new project. The laboratory and pilot plant under the center can provide services for early-stage development of new product and quality examination of existing products. The postdoctoral station sits in the center, which can give technological support to the company in further promoting competitive power and keeping development.

The company allocates funds of several million yuan for research each year. Now there are six projects under research, and some of them are at the industrialization stage. The center owns 30 researchers including 3 professors, 1 postdoctoral researcher and 12 senior engineers. They are the pillar of research and development items of the company. Furthermore, the center allocates huge funds for hardware such as instruments and devices for check and measure. The center has three laboratories, i.e. superhard materials lab, electronic materials lab and chemical power materials lab, and one pilot plant. It has not only large-scale equipment such as 400 and 500 cubic-type presses for diamond synthesis and fully-closed atomization air-cooling powder-making system but also soph- isticated detecting devices such as impact toughness measuring instrument and precision electronic scales, which gives a strong support in hardware to the technical innovation and product development.

The center institutes a system of project responsibility. The projects under research all concerns the problems in need of immediate resolution. These techniques have a bright market prospect. Beside of affording opportunities to the researchers for further studying, the center is applying for an engineering technology center of Hunan Province to make the company outstanding in intensive market competitions.
